Bengals WR Hints at Joining Steelers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking ahead to the 2024 season, trying to sculpt the best team they can for a playoff run that hopefully ends in a better result than a Wild Card loss. But if they're looking for a third wide receiver to join their mix, there's an interesting name who may be open to the possibility.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd has roots across the city, going to Clairton high school and attending the University of Pittsburgh. He's set to be inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame Class of 2024, and when talking about the possibility of returning home to play at all three levels in the city of Pittsburgh, he said he may be open to it.
“You never know,” Boyd told Pittsburgh Sports Now. "I love Coach Tomlin. He’s probably one of the realest dudes in the sport’s business. Obviously, I played at Pitt, and I had a lot of run-ins with him and talked to him just about football. His personality is more like a father figure, it’s a great connection, but who knows? Even if I don’t go after this year, I could do a one-year deal at the end of my career and maybe finish up, but who knows."
Boyd is set to be a free agent this offseason, and with the Bengals trying to extend Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase, he could be the odd man out due to salary cap space. Meanwhile, in Pittsburgh, Allen Robinson could be a cap causality due to his $11.9 million cap hit next season.
If the stars align, maybe the Steelers end up with a player they've faced for the last eight years.
