Dolphins Sign Former Steelers CB

Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Mark Gilbert is now a Dolphin.

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Mark Gilbert is fresh off of a stellar season in the USFL and that has earned him another shot in the NFL.

Gilbert, who was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2021, was picked up by the Miami Dolphins this week, the team announced.

Gilbert spent six weeks with the Steelers as a member of their practice squad before the Detroit Lions signed him in mid October of the same year. After being elevated to the active roster, Gilbert appeared in eight games, made three tackles, defended a pass and forced a fumble. The Lions eventually released him in August 2022.

He spent a second short stint with the Steelers practice squad before joining the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL. Gilbert was a star defensive back during the 2023 season, leading the league in interceptions with four.
