Texans GM Takes Shot at Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger

The Houston Texans general manager must have heard the former Pittsburgh Steelers QB's comments.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers made a last-minute trade with the Texans before finalizing their 53-man roster. The team sent former third-round pick Kendrick Green to Houston prior to the roster deadline, ending a two-and-a-half-year run with the offensive lineman.

Green heads to Houston with an opportunity to contribute on the offensive line after some injuries. His time in Pittsburgh wasn't the smoothest as he started most of his rookie season at center but ultimately failed to be active for a game in his second year.

This summer, it appeared he was on the outside looking in for the final roster, which led the Steelers testing out alternatives, including a move to fullback.

The position change led to plenty of commentary, including some from his former quarterback.

"He was my center my last year. They drafted that guy to be my center. Well, last year, he didn’t even dress. And now they have him playing a little bit of fullback," Ben Roethlisberger said on his podcast 'Footbahllin'. "Kevin Colbert and them drafted him to be my center my last year. And now he is playing fullback. But good for Kendrick."

After the trade was made, Texans general manager Nick Caserio addressed the move, and has plenty of optimism for Green's future. He also tossed in a quick word to Roethlisberger about his comments.

"He actually played, probably, more competitive than people think," Caserio said. "I know there’s been some commentary made about him — specifically from the guy who played quarterback there. But, in the end, we can’t really worry about what happened somewhere else. (We’re) trying to focus on where we are now and what you think he can bring to the table. He has some inside flexibility, center-guard and guard-center. He’s an offensive lineman."

The Steelers received a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in exchange for Green.
