Steelers Bringing in WR Mike Williams
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have scheduled a visit with free agent Mike Williams, adding themselves to a growing list of candidates for the former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Williams is set to visit the Steelers, Carolina Panthers and New York Jets this week.
Williams, 29, is a former first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. In seven years with the Chargers, he's recorded 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns. He's accounted for two 1,000-yard seasons since entering the league.
Last season, Williams played just three games before suffering a torn ACL, but caught 19 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown.
The Steelers recently signed former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Van Jefferson, adding the veteran to a room with George Pickens and Calvin Austin as members who played on the active roster last season. The team is also expected to draft a wide receiver after spending a lot of time meeting with prospects at the NFL Combine.
Williams would become an immediate replacement for Diontae Johnson, who the team traded to the Carolina Panthers.
