Steelers Rookie Cory Trice Has Huge Day at OTAs

The Pittsburgh Steelers seventh-round pick caused plenty of excitement during practice.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Cory Trice Jr. turned heads at OTAs, finishing the day with two interceptions on the same drive to end practice.

"It feels good. Just seeing the guys be happy for me. Seeing everybody have the same goal and just to win and get better every day," Trice said about his turnovers. "Definitely a good culture around here, and I'm just to build to it and get better."

There was some controversy over the first interception, as the offense tried to argue it was pass interference from Trice. So, he came back and made sure the second one didn't have any questions.

"For him to go back-to-back. He makes a good play, and I don't know if it was pass interference or not; I wasn't looking. But then he comes back and gets the interception," Steelers cornerback Levi Wallace said on the play. "That's what being a corner is about - forgetting - whatever happened, happened."

The play had a little extra spark because it was the defense's fifth turnover of the day. A margin the group called before practice started and competed with their seventh-round rookie.

"[Damontae] Kazee said we were going to get five turnovers in the locker room, and then that was our fifth one," Wallace said. "It was a good play, but we got super excited because we got five. We told the offense we were going to get it, and we did, so, super fun."

Trice has impressed his veteran teammates during his first two weeks of practice, learning the defense and beginning to make plays for the secondary.

"I'm happy for him," Wallace said. "He's asking all the right questions. Really good player, super big. Him and Joey [Porter Jr.] are dang near the same size. It's dope having those corners who can bring the energy like that. Who are bought in and really want to learn."

It's been a good start for a player hoping to land a spot on his first NFL team, but Trice hasn't shied away from the action at OTAs, and since walking in the door, believes he's capable of being a valuable part of the Steelers defense.

"I feel like as soon as I came here, I felt like I belonged," Trice said.
