Steelers Rival Deshaun Watson Caught in Drama With Former Player
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are working throughout their own quarterback situation as Kenny Pickett continues to develop into a four-quarter QB. But even with Pickett's struggles, the team isn't in the situation the Cleveland Browns are with Deshaun Watson.
Currently, it's unknown what is going on with Watson. The veteran quarterback missed multiple weeks with a shoulder injury, but returned in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts. However, he went down with an injury in the first quarter - after throwing two interceptions - and never went back into the game.
Watson was cleared by medical staff on the sideline, but head coach Kevin Stefanski said the decision to keep Watson sidelined was precautionary. When asked later in the week if Watson could end up on Injured Reserve, Stefanski said it's a day-by-day situation.
Watson's injury, tied with his fully guaranteed $230 million deal, has sparked conversation throughout the league. And one former Browns quarterback didn't hold back with his thoughts on the matter.
During an appearance on Two Pros and a Cup, former Cleveland passer Brady Quinn questioned Watson's motivation to play.
"Everyone with a medical opinion has cleared Deshaun Watson. The situation is almost similar to a kid getting a $230 million trust fund. You ask them to get a job and they have no incentive to do it," Quinn said.
Former linebacker and the show's host LaVar Arrington agreed with the notion and said the Browns will go on a run with backup P.J. Walker while, "the trust fund baby's just chilling."
Watson's quarterback coach Quincy Avery caught the comment, which sparked a heated conversation on X.
"Brady, I'm a be real. You don't know what the fuck you are talking bout, and sit behind a microphone gossiping like a little high school chick," Avery replied.
The comments went back and forth before ending with Brady replying, "How about we massage this conversation and get it to a happy ending? Does that sound satisfactory?"
It's unknown when Watson will return to the field next, but Cleveland fans - at least those in the comments of Quincy's tweet - are not pleased with their quarterback not playing.
Through 10 games as Cleveland's starting quarterback, Watson is 6-4, completing 59.6% of his passes and throwing 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions.
