PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding a passing-game coordinator to their coaching staff, hiring former Los Angeles Chargers coach Tom Arth, according to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson.

Arth interviewed with the Steelers earlier in the week, along with other passing-game coordinator candidates. After meeting with the team, he's now joining the staff, keeping the same role he had with the Chargers as a pass-game specialist.

Arth started his NFL coaching career in 2022 with the Chargers as their pass-game specialist. Prior to the NFL, he was the head coach at Akron (2019-2021), Chattanooga (2017-2018) and John Carroll (2013-2016).

As a player, Arth played from 2003 to 2008, bouncing between the NFL and other professional leagues. As a quarterback, he played in the Canadian Football League, European League, and the Arena League, with his longest tenure being with the Indianapolis Colts from 2003 to 2005.

The Steelers are expected to retain quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan, leaving Arth as their passing-game coordinator. He'll work with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to formulate gameplans and help the development of the quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends, and improve an offense that found some success through the air later in the 2023 season.
