Steelers Hiring Zach Azzanni as WR Coach

The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to land their new wide receivers coach.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are hiring former New York Jets wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni for the same position, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Azzanni interviewed with the Steelers earlier in the week as one of several assistant coaches the team brought in as candidates. After the departure of Frisman Jackson, the team began searching for a new hire as a wide receivers coach. That hire will now be Azzanni.

In the NFL, Azzanni has worked with the Jets, Chicago Bears (2018) and Denver Broncos (2018-2022). He was also a passing game coordinator in the NCAA with Florida in 2010 and Tennessee from 2015 to 2016. He was also the offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky in 2011 and the assistant head coach at Central Michigan from 2007 to 2009.

During his time in the NFL, he's helped with the development of Garrett Wilson, Courtland Sutton, Jerry Juedy and others. He'll now have an opportunity to help the progression of Diontae Johnson, George Pickens and Calvin Austin.

The Steelers have brought in other assistants for interviews, leading to believe they will continue making changes to their coaching staff. They have openings in their strength and conditioning department but are also interviewing passing game coordinators and quarterback coaches.
