Steelers Interest in Tyler Boyd Fading
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers were once believed to be the top landing spot for former University of Pittsburgh star Tyler Boyd. But now, according to The Athletic's Mark Kaboly, the chances of a deal getting done seems to be fading.
According to Kaboly, not everyone inside the Steelers organization is sold on signing the former Cincinnati Bengals wideout. While the possibility of a deal is still on the table, it appears less likely than it did when reports first emerged of their interest.
To this point, Boyd's representatives and the Steelers have had conversations about coming to Pittsburgh, but at the time, the Steelers were competing with the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets.
Since then, the Chiefs have signed Marquise Brown, and the Steelers have begun looking in other directions, signing Van Jefferson and scheduling a visit with former Los Angeles Chargers receiver Mike Williams.
Boyd, 28, would add a starter-capable option at the slot position, but the Steelers may be keeping that open for someone like Calvin Austin. The third-year receiver took steps forward in his second year after missing his rookie season with a foot injury. Pittsburgh could view him as their next starter after moving on from Allen Robinson.
As of now, the door remains open, but it appears Pittsburgh is likely to head in another direction at wide receiver, with Williams being the next favorite to be signed.
