Report: Steelers Interested in Trading for Chiefs CB
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers need another cornerback alongside Joey Porter Jr., and Kansas City Chiefs star L'Jarius Sneed seems to make sense as an addition. And according to Steelers Now's Nick Farabaugh, the team is interested in making a move.
"The Pittsburgh Steelers have expressed interest in Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, a league source in Indianapolis told Steelers Now. Pittsburgh believes they need to upgrade their cornerback room, and the team sees Sneed as one of the top potential fits," Farabaugh writes.
The reported asking price for Sneed is a second-round pick, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Steelers would then take on his franchise tag of $19.8 million this season but would also have the opportunity to ink him to a long-term contract.
At 27-years-old, Sneed has 10 interceptions in his four-year career, including two this past season. He allowed just a 51% completion percentage in 2023 with 14 passes defensed and zero touchdowns allowed.
The Steelers are roughly $13 million under the salary cap heading into free agency but have ways to create another $16 million with the release of Allen Robinson and Patrick Peterson alone. From there, there are plenty of options to create space through cuts and contract restructures.
