Steelers in Conversation to Land Justin Fields
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking at every option when it comes to their quarterback situation, and one who has been tossed out a number of times is Chicago Bears passer Justin Fields. And according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, there have been some conversations about the former first-round pick coming to Pittsburgh.
During an airing on ESPN, Schefter said the Steelers may be able to figure out a path to landing Fields, despite other reports claiming the Atlanta Falcons were coming close to a deal.
"I think Atlanta will be something of a surprise right now to trade for Justin Fields," Schefter said. "There’s been some conversations about the Pittsburgh Steelers, maybe something can be figured out there."
Steelers general manager Omar Khan said during the NFL Combine that the team will explore all options for a quarterback, including the possibility of trading for Fields. As of now, it's expected he'll go for a second or third-round draft pick.
A Fields deal would come with questions, including whether or not the team would pick up his fifth-year option. It would also mean heavier competition for Kenny Pickett, but at this point, that's something Pittsburgh would welcome during training camp.
As free agency gets closer, expect these "conversations" to ramp up, with the Steelers still in play to land the Chicago quarterback.
