Steelers OLB Alex Highsmith Enters Concussion Protocol
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith has entered concussion protocol after suffering a neck injury in Week 14 against the New England Patriots, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Highsmith left in the first half against the Patriots with a neck injury. He was originally ruled questionable to return, but after going back to the locker room, he was downgraded to out.
The Steelers' star outside linebacker went through further evaluations the morning after the game which led to him entering the concussion protocol. He'll need to return to practice and be able to clear protocol by an independent neurologist before the team's Week 15 game.
Pittsburgh does have extended time before their matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. After playing Thursday night, they'll be given an extra day of practice, and Highsmith will get three extra days to recover in hopes of returning within a week.
If he's unable to go, the Steelers will turn to veteran Markus Golden and rookie Nick Herbig alongside T.J. Watt.
