Report: Steelers Looking to Trade CB Desmond King
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have informed Desmond King they will seek a trade for him prior to the deadline, but if they're unable to find a suitor, they'll be releasing the veteran cornerback, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The Steelers signed King just after final roster cuts at the end of the preseason. The former Houston Texans starter was believed to be a candidate to play a significant role within the defense but played just one defensive snap in the five games he spent with Pittsburgh.
Pelissero also reported the Steelers signed rookie cornerback Darius Rush off of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. The simultaneous moves mean Pittsburgh does not have an open roster spot to keep King and Rush without cutting someone else.
King, 28, has 53 games of starting experience on his resume and tallied five interceptions between 2021 and 2022. Pittsburgh could possibly find a trade partner in a short span, but if not, King will likely be a top free agent was released.
