Steelers Meet With Memphis Star at Hula Bowl
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers' season ended just days ago and they are already knee-deep in preparations for next season, beginning with checking out the next generation of stars at some pre-draft scouting events.
The Steelers' search for new blood started at the Hula Bowl in Orlando, Florida, where they met with rising running back star Blake Watson, a 6'2, 220-pound prospect out of Memphis.
Watson has been a popular guy at Hula Bowl competitions over the past week. The Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers all met with him at the Hula Bowl in addition to the Steelers.
He'll be back in action at the East-West Shrine Bowl in Frisco, Texas next month, where more scouts will have their eyes trained on him.
Watson accounted for 1,632 total yards and 17 touchdowns as a dual rushing and receiving threat for the Tigers this past season. He earned First-Team All-American Athletic Conference honors for his efforts in 2023.
Both of the Steelers' starting tailbacks - Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren - are under contract but only through the 2024 season. Pittsburgh could be in the market for young running back depth soon.
