Steelers Star Questionable Against Seahawks

The Pittsburgh Steelers could get Minkah Fitzpatrick back this week.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers got some encouraging news about the status of injured superstar safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who is dealing with a knee injury. 

The Steelers are leaving the door open for both Fitzpatrick and Trenton Thompson, a backup who's taken snaps as a starter with the position group decimated by attrition, to return to the field against the Seattle Seahawks after missing last week's game.  

"Both guys could be described as limited starting the week and we'll see how limited," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said. "We'll look at the quality of that work and let that be our guide as we progress through the week."

Neither Thompson, who's dealing with a neck injury, nor Fitzpatrick practiced last week but they will begin this week taking on a lighter-than-usual workload. 

Elijah Riley and Eric Rowe filled in for Thompson, Fitzpatrick and Damontae Kazee, who is serving a three-game suspension for an illegal hit from the Colts game, against the Bengals. Rowe in particular played well, recording seven tackles and an interception.  

Getting Fitzpatrick back would provide a huge boost for the Steelers, not only because it would mean plugging an All-Pro-caliber talent back in at a position where they are extremely thin, but because he is one of the better communicators on the defense. With Elandon Roberts set to miss this week's game with a pec injury, Fitzpatrick's role in keeping the defense organized can't be understated.
