Steelers RB Named Trade Candidate
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have not one, but two talented running backs their offense has relied on throughout the season. But the emergence of Jaylen Warren has sparked the conversation of trading Najee Harris, and one analyst believes it's the team's best move.
Cory Woodroof of USA Today Sports created the best trade scenario for each team in the NFL, and for the Steelers, it's to trade away their starting running back and transition to their younger option.
"This might seem a little surprising, but the Steelers might want to transition running back Jaylen Warren into that starting spot and consider sending Harris to a team that could better utilize his talents," Woodroof writes.
"Harris hasn’t quite been the thousand-yard rusher we’ve gotten used to this season, and it’d be very easy to see a Super Bowl-caliber team calling up the Steelers and seeing if Harris is available."
Woodroof suggests the Steelers could receive as much as a second-round pick for Harris this season.
Through five games, Harris has rushed for 247 yards but is yet to find the endzone. Meanwhile, Warren has rushed for 124 yards and has averaged just 3.6 yards per carry to Harris's 3.9. But with 166 yards receiving and 36 yards after contact, the second-year back has caught the interest of many for an expanded role.
Will it happen? Chances are the Steelers are content with where they are at running back and will turn to both Harris and Warren to carry the offense in the second half of the year. But if someone offers something as high as a second-round pick, well, maybe Omar Khan has a phone call and things can change.
