The Pittsburgh Steelers could be in the hunt for the Super Bowl champion.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers could be on the hunt for one of the NFL's biggest quarterbacks and were tabbed as a landing spot in 2024 for the former Denver Broncos passer.

After the Broncos decided to bench Russell Wilson to ensure they did not need to pay the $37 million injury guarantee in 2024, multiple league insiders have claimed the team is planning to move on from the Super Bowl champion this coming offseason.

If Wilson does hit the open market, CBS Sports' Zach Gelb believes the Steelers are a team that should approach him.

"Who are the most intriguing destinations out there? They have a good roster, a good team, and they could use an upgrade at the quarterback position," Gelb said. "How about the Pittsburgh Steelers? The Steelers have two receivers who are probably on the verge of killing each other in George Pickens and Diontae Johnson, because they have no quarterback play. Heck, Mason Rudolph just played well and now he’s replacing a first-round pick from two draft classes ago. You have a defense with a ton of talent if they can stay healthy. And you also have Jaylen Warren and Najee Harris to run the football."

The Steelers are in the midst of some quarterback controversy after Mason Rudolph lit up the scoreboard in his 2023 debut, throwing for 290 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Kenny Pickett is dealing with an ankle injury, but the emergence of Rudolph has opened questions about whether or not he'll continue to be the starter moving forward.

Wilson has completed 66% of his passes this season for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns with just eight interceptions. The Broncos are 7-8 heading into Week 17 after starting 1-5 on the year. They were on a 6-1 streak before back-to-back losses that led to Wilson's benching.
