Steelers Not Optimistic About Kenny Pickett
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will begin a short week as they prepare for the Tennessee Titans, and because of the limited practice time, they aren't expecting quarterback Kenny Pickett to play.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, there isn't much optimism with the Steelers when it comes to their starting quarterback being healthy. Pickett left against the Jaguars with a rib injury and was unable to return to the game. Now, it appears Mitch Trubisky will be the starter in Week 9 for Pittsburgh.
Trubisky is 2-3 as a starter for the Steelers and has struggled at times while operating within Pittsburgh's offense. In nine games with the team, he's thrown five touchdowns to seven interceptions, including two INTs against Jacksonville.
Mason Rudolph will operate as the backup without Pickett but isn't a likely candidate to climb above Trubisky for a starting job.
The Steelers will have two days of practice before hosting Tennessee, and Pickett's availability during those prep days will determine if he's got a shot to play.
