Steelers Have Option for Splash Trade at WR
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers still haven't made a decision on whether or not they'll place Diontae Johnson on Injured Reserve, shutting him down for at least four weeks. If they do, they'll turn to George Pickens, Allen Robinson and Calvin Austin as they big three for Kenny Pickett, but an outside name could be on their mind.
Earlier in the offseason, sources told All Steelers that the Las Vegas Raiders were interested in trading wide receiver Hunter Renfrow. At 28 years old, Renfrow is coming off an oblique injury that shut down his 2022 season. However, the year prior, he recorded 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns and burst onto the scene as one of the league's best receivers.
In Week 1, Renfrow recorded just 13 offensive snaps and did not catch a pass. It was the first time in his career he finished a game without a reception.
Now, rumors are emerging that Renfrow could be on the trade block again, with the Steelers being a team that seems to make some sense.
If Pittsburgh wants to add help to their receiving core for Pickett while Johnson recovers from a hamstring injury, adding Renfrow makes sense. He'd need time to adjust to the offensive game plan, but once he did, he's a reliable pass-catcher and a veteran who is certainly proven in this league.
His contract would be in question after the season, as he's set to make $13.7 next season, but only carries a $5 million dead cap in 2024.
