Steelers' Pat Freiermuth Named Top 10 TE in NFL
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have themselves one of the best tight ends in the NFL. In ESPN's 2023 rankings of the position, voted on by players, coaches, scouts and executives, Pittsburgh's Pat Freiermuth comes in at number nine.
Freiermuth sits ahead of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox, and falls just below New York Giants' Evan Engram and Atlanta Falcons' Kyles Pitts.
Here is the full list:
- Travis Kelce - Kansas City Chiefs
- George Kittle - San Francisco 49ers
- Mark Andrews - Baltimore Ravens
- Dallas Goedert - Philadelphia Eagles
- Darren Waller - Las Vegas Raiders
- T.J. Hockenson - Minnesota Vikings
- Kyle Pitts - Atlanta Falcons
- Evan Engram - New York Giants
- Pat Freiermuth - Pittsburgh Steelers
- Dawson Knox - Buffalo Bills
Freiermuth is coming off a 732-yard season for the Steelers, finding the endzone twice in 2023. In two years in the NFL, he's caught 123 passes for 1,229 yards and nine touchdowns.
Freiermuth should take on an even bigger role this season as the Steelers' boosted their tight end room with the addition of Darnell Washington. The third-round rookie should work with backup Zach Gentry as blocking options while Freiermuth becomes more of a pass-catcher within the offense.
The Steelers could have a contract situation on their hands soon, as well. With No. 6 on the list, T.J. Hockenson, eying a new deal with the Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh's tight end could seeing his next NFL deal in the numbers Hockenson receives.
Freiermuth continues the Steelers' tear through the ESPN top 10 lists. So far, T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Cam Heyward all found their way into the top 10, with Freiermuth being the fourth player in six lists.
