Steelers Likely Outcome of Alex Highsmith Trade Talks
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers were given three "top" trade candidates heading into training camp, and headlining the list is outside linebacker Alex Highsmith.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox made the case for a Highsmith deal very simple. The team can receive a pretty high return for a player who's about to get paid - and maybe they don't want to pay him.
So, let's talk about it. Highsmith still doesn't have a contract in hand past this upcoming season. He's coming off a 14.5-sack year where he led the NFL in forced fumbles with five. He was clearly the star Pittsburgh needed when T.J. Watt went down and is now looking for a major payday before training camp.
For the Steelers, they've learned some very valuable lessons through tough times the last few seasons. One of them is the importance of edge rushers.
On top of that, this team believes they have a real shot at making a run in 2023. Whether everyone else believes it or not, they're moving as if a playoff run is on the road ahead, and they want all the pieces in place to ensure they can make the most of it.
General manager Omar Khan will likely receive calls for Highsmith if he hasn't already. But here's the more likely outcome of any Highsmith trade talks...
