Steelers Predicted to Land Dolphins LB

There's a "good possibility" the Pittsburgh Steelers end up with the recently-released inside linebacker.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers feel like a natural fit for former Miami Dolphins inside linebacker Jerome Baker, and one team insider says there's a good chance the two sides get a deal done in free agency.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ray Fittipaldo said during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan that there's a "good possibility" the Steelers make a move for Baker and are able to land the former Miami Dolphin.

"I remember going back to when Baker was coming out of Ohio State. That's an annual stop for the Steelers' Pro Day tour, and there was some interest then," Fittipaldo said. "I know he is coming off an injury, but yeah, I mean that salary cap casualty by the Dolphins might end up being fortuitous for the Steelers if they can potentially hammer out a deal."

Fittipaldo is the second Steelers insider to believe the team will land Baker this offseason, following The Athletic's Mark Kaboly.

Baker makes sense for Pittsburgh. He's a young, athletic inside option who can pair up with both Elandon Roberts and Cole Holcomb. And with Holcomb's return still in question after his ACL surgery, Pittsburgh needs another starter-capable option.

Last season, Baker recorded two interceptions, one touchdown, 78 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and three pass defelctions. He was set to earn just over $10 million this season before his release, which should make him less expensive for the next team he signs with.
