PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have informed cornerback Arthur Maulet that they will release him after two years with the team, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Maulet signed with the Steelers in 2021 and played their starting nickelback role the last two seasons. The 29-year-old played 33 games, including eight starts, and recorded 106 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception during his time in Pittsburgh.

Maulet's release comes as a bit of surprise as the Steelers have limited options at the slot corner position. With the draft picks of Joey Porter Jr. and Cory Trice Jr., they could bounce one to the inside, or they can see if Patrick Peterson works as a slot.

They also recently signed former Minnesota Vikings slot corner Chandon Sullivan, who comes to the Steelers with 30 starts over the last three years.
