Steelers Release Two WRs After Injury Settlements

The Pittsburgh Steelers have cut ties with two receivers.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have released wide receivers Cody White and Hakeem Butler, who were both placed on Injured Reserve, after agreeing to injury settlements with each player.

Both Butler and White were waived/injured last week and cleared waivers, reverting them to IR. The team was able to reach settlements with both, allowing the wideouts to go back onto the open market and sign with other teams.

Typically, injury settlements are made when players can return before the end of the season. That way, players can find new teams after they're healthy.

As for the Steelers, they avoid paying the player's salary while on IR.

With the Steelers final roster cuts approaching, they brought in two new players late in the summer to replace Butler and White. That way, they could continue to evaluate options before making their 53-man team.

It's unknown what injuries White and Butler are dealing with at this time.
