PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers decided on Kenny Pickett over Malik Willis in the 2022 NFL Draft, but a nearly impossible shot at having both could come to fruition.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly considering releasing Willis after just one season with the team. The third-round pick played in eight games, including three starts, and 1-2 with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He was eventually replaced by former Steelers quarterback Josh Dobbs.

Now, according to Fox Sports' Ben Arthur, the Titans could be moving on from Willis and letting the second-year QB hit the open market.

"Malik Willis, a third-round pick last year, is the odd man out as long as Tannehill is on the roster. Levis is going to be on the team, and the Titans don't typically keep three quarterbacks on the 53," Arthur writes.

Willis was the more "raw" quarterback of the class coming into the NFL. Many raved about his athleticism and big arm but warned about him needing time to adapt to the NFL.

If Tennessee does move on from Willis, the Steelers have a decision to make. With Mitch Trubisky entering the final year of his deal, Pittsburgh is looking for a long-term backup quarterback. They added two undrafted free agents in Minnesota's Tanner Morgan and Northwestern's Hunter Johnson, but neither move the needle enough to hold off on another addition.

Willis might not be a sure bet for any team, but one looking for a third-stringer with upside in 2023, the Steelers make a lot of sense if the Titans QB hits free agency.
