Steelers' T.J. Watt Named Defensive Player of Month
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt is taking home his fourth AFC Defensive Player of the Month award, winning the honor in September.
Watt had a memorable first month of the season, recording six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a touchdown. He also surpassed James Harrison as the team's all-time sack leader.
The rest of his stats include 11 tackles, nine of them solo, 12 quarterback hits, five tackles for a loss and two passes defended.
"T.J., you can't think of another guy that impacts the game more," Houston Texans Coach DeMeco Ryans said ahead of their Week 4 matchup. "He is probably the most impactful defensive player in the league right now. Leading the league in sacks and pressures.
"When you have one guy who can pressure and disrupt the quarterback, it just changes the entire scheme of things defensively. You don't have to blitz as much because you have a guy like T.J. Watt."
Watt won the award twice in 2020 (September and November) and once in 2019 (November).
