Steelers Work Out Four Punters, Two Long Snappers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers had a big special teams scouting day, bringing in four punters and two long snappers for workouts as they prepare to deal with a hamstring injury to Pressley Harvin.
Harvin didn't leave Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders but did suffer the injury in-game. Now, it's unknown how much time he'll miss or whether or not the Steelers will have to replace him this weekend, but if they need to, they're prepared.
The team brought in punters Brad Wing, Drue Chrisman, Blake Gillikin and Pat O'Donnell, and long snappers Tucker Addington and Carson Tinker for workouts.
They signed Wing to their practice squad before leaving.
O'Donnell played for the Chicago Bears from 2014-2021 and then for the Green Bay Packers last season. Gillikin played for the New Orleans Saints the last two years. Chrisman was on the Steelers practice squad in 2021 and played for the Cincinnati Bengals last season.
While the Steelers likely won't need another punter from the workout, having options they are familiar with will help them in the future. NFL teams are constantly looking for security blankets in case of injury, and having familiarity with all four will be useful at some point.
As for long snappers, it's somewhat the same deal. If Christian Kuntz was to ever miss time, they'd have a feel for Addington or Tinker. They also needed long snappers for the workout.
