Steelers Have Two More Trades to Make Before Deadline
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers made their first big splash as they prepare to finalize their 53-man roster, trading offensive guard Kevin Dotson to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for draft picks.
You could see the Dotson trade coming. Since the team signed Nate Herbig and Isaac Seumalo in the offseason, the writing on the wall was there for the Steelers to move on from their former fourth-round pick. It took longer than anticipated, but a deal got done.
Now, they have two more moves they can make before they put the finishing touches on their regular season team.
The first comes on the defensive line. The Steelers have eight defensive linemen worthy of roster spots, but they typically only keep seven players. With the emergence of other positions that add more special teams value, it's tough to say that Pittsburgh would consider keeping all eight of their defensive tackles. So, their options are to cut one or find a trade partner.
Montravius Adams and Armon Watts are likely the two the Steelers would consider moving simply due to age. Isaiahh Loudermilk is only a third-year player who has continued to develop, and DeMarvin Leal is a second-year third-round pick who is only getting started.
Keeanu Benton isn't an option, and Breiden Fehoko offers more nose tackle capabilities than the rest of the group.
The other trade option for Pittsburgh is Kendrick Green. With the trade of Dotson, there's some belief that Green is going to stick around, and will now land on the 53-man roster after possibly missing the cut before the move.
When Dotson was still a Steeler, there was the thought that Green could be dealt before he was released. That belief should still be there.
The Steelers may not be sold on Green being their fourth option on the interior, and they could be looking at outside options to add instead. If they are, Green could be the next name who is dealt from Pittsburgh before the deadline.
The former third-round pick is entering just his third NFL season and has experience at center and guard. He may not have a ton of value in Pittsburgh, but that won't stop other teams from considering a move.
It's unknown what either Adams, Watts or Green would go for in a trade, but general manager Omar Khan continues to prove fans can put their trust in him.
The Steelers received a 2024 fourth and 2025 fifth-round pick from the Rams in exchange for Dotson, a 2024 fifth and 2025 sixth-round pick.
