CB Options Becoming Available for Steelers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have a depth concern at cornerback, and as they finalize their 53-man roster, they could look to make a change at who they keep as their fourth corner.
Right now, James Pierre is likely the favorite if they do stick with the players they had throughout the summer. If they don't, there are veterans out there who make sense, if healthy, and some young names who are now being placed on waivers for them to grab.
The list will grow over the next two days, but right now, younger options are starting to become available. So far, the New York Giants have released former LSU standout Darren Evans, along with the Houston Texans cutting veteran Darius Phillips. The New York Jets have also recently released corner/safety Dane Cruikshank, who has 52 games of experience in the NFL.
Other who have been recently released include:
- Chris Jackson, former Tennessee Titan
- Greedy Williams, former Philadelphia Eagle
- Bless Austin, former Atlanta Falcon
- Colby Richardson, former Detriot Lion
- Rejzohn Wright, former Carolina Panther
- Montrae Braswell, former Seattle Seahawk
The Steelers will need to make the call on who they're looking for as their final cornerback piece, but taking a chance on a developmental piece makes sense after a tough summer for Pierre.
More names will emerge as teams finalize their 53-man rosters. The Steelers will be able to look through a list of waiver claims and have the opportunity to make the change before this week's deadline.
