Steelers Weather Update: Bills Stadium Covered in Snow

The Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Buffalo Bills inside a stadium still blanketed by snow.

ORCHARD PARK -- The worst of the blizzard that delayed the Pittsburgh Steeler's playoff opener against the Buffalo Bills has passed through Orchard Park, New York over the weekend but the elements will still be in play as the second-to-last game of Wild Card Weekend gets underway.

After feet of lake effect snow was dumped on Highmark Stadium, paid snow shovelers worked tirelessly Sunday afternoon and into Monday morning to get the facility ready for game day. Heavy machinery was able to clear the playing surface, but the stands were still blanketed in powder mere hours before kickoff, giving fans some obstacles to climb over on the way to their seats.

According to AccuWeather, one to three inches of snow are expected to fall on Orchard Park Monday night and into Tuesday morning, adding to the already deep piles covering Highmark Stadium.

Heaters over the club-level seats, which ran overnight and into the early hours of gameday, will make life easier for those who were able to invest a little bit more money into their seats. Those red chairs were fully visible while the blue bleachers that make up the rest of the seating were not.

The snow held off through the morning of gameday and the sun even peaked through for a couple of hours as fans lined up to begin their tailgating and await the opening of parking lots surrounding Highmark Stadium. But dark clouds rolled back over Orchard Park beginning around 1:00 p.m.

But even with the additional snow, the heavy wind that whipped around western New York is not expected to be as severe a factor come gametime. Wind speed peaked at 25 miles per hour roughly four hours before kickoff but will die progressively throughout the day and fall below 10 miles per hour by kickoff.

The inclement weather might not be as bad as it would have been for the originally scheduled kickoff, but things still won't be ideal for fans attending the game.
