Russell Wilson Has Prior Connection to Steelers
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the hunt for players to fill out their quarterbacks room and former Seattle Seahawk and Denver Broncos star Russell Wilson has emerged as a candidate.
The rumors of a potential marriage between the Steelers and Wilson might seem far fetched but there is a connection to Pittsburgh that could make it more enticing for the former All-Pro quarterback. Wilson and his wife, the Grammy-winning R&B singer, Ciara, are founding partners of Evolution Advisors, LLC - a joint venture with Acrisure, an insurance company that owns the naming rights to the Steelers home stadium.
Evolution Advisors is a joint venture that is focused on "the insurance needs of minority-owned businesses and diverse communities across the United States," according to Acrisure's official website.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported earlier this week that Wilson and the Steelers would meet to explore a potential deal. There is interest from the Steelers in signing Wilson and retaining free agent Mason Rudolph, according to a report from All Steelers' Noah Strackbein, to fill out the quarterback room around 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett.
Wilson was released by the Broncos after two seasons in Denver. He is set to make over $37 million from the team this season, which could allow him to sign for a team like the Steelers for little money in 2024.
If the Steelers are able to add the Super Bowl champion for only a few million dollars this season, it is believed to be their top choice.
Wilson is 115-72-1 all-time as a starter in the NFL, earning nine Pro Bowls and a Lombardi trophy. He was 7-8 last season with the Broncos, throwing for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns to eight interceptions.
