PITTSBURGH -- Two former Pittsburgh Steelers superstars are on the shortlist to land in next year's NFL Hall of Fame class, it was announced this week.

Wide receiver Hines Ward and outside linebacker James Harrison were among the 25 modern-era players named Semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024. This is Ward's eighth year as a semifinalist and Harrison's second. These two former Steelers will hope to make the next round of cuts, which trims the list to 15 finalists before final voting on induction.

Ward, a former third-round pick in the 1998 NFL Draft, played each of his 14 NFL seasons in Pittsburgh. He ranks 14th in league history with an even 1,000 receptions, 27th with 12,083 receiving yards and 19th with 85 receiving touchdowns. Ward is also a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl Champion and even took home Super Bowl XL MVP honors.

Harrison went from an undrafted addition to the Steelers in the spring of 2002 to one of the most feared defenders of his era. He ranks 20th all-time in career tackles for loss in the NFL and 18th in forced fumbles. He is a two-time All-Pro selection, five-time Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl Champion and 2008 Defensive Player of the Year from his 16-year career with the Steelers, Bengals and Patriots.

The 2024 Hall of Fame Class will be selected prior to the Super Bowl this coming February and announced at the NFL Honors scheduled for later that month. Induction ceremonies will take place in August of next year in Canton, Ohio.
