Steelers Can't Blame George Pickens for This One
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers "way" is under fire this week as many former players and plenty of television and radio personalities are calling out the traditions - or lack thereof - within this organization, right now. And while Mike Tomlin is taking most of the blame, wide receiver George Pickens is catching plenty of fire on the backend - and maybe, it's not so warranted.
Pickens opened up about his frustrations over the last two weeks and asked what everyone would like his emotions to be during losses. Tomlin addressed the situation earlier in the week, saying Pickens's sideline outbursts weren't "solution-oriented," which made them a problem.
"We’re all frustrated, but we have to manage our frustration in a professional and mature way and when it’s not done that way, it’s not necessarily pushing us towards solutions," Tomlin said.
When Pickens was asked what he could do to help turn these losses into wins, he pointed to what he's capable of doing - which is little.
"I don’t know. You guys be at practice, right? I would just say I hope to see things like that. When it’s routes like that, I mean, I can’t really produce that way, running 5-yard routes, 3-yard routes," Pickens said.
That's when it all made a lot more sense. Pickens should be more solution-oriented with his frustrations, but maybe, the Steelers should be more solution-oriented in trying to get their best offensive player involved.
For as much blame as everyone wants to put on Pickens being upset, there should be the same, if not more, blame on the Steelers totally ignoring their best chance at turning their offensive struggles around.
This time, as much as everyone wants to, you can't blame Pickens.
