Steelers Should Hire Mike Vrabel

The Pittsburgh Steelers should add another top coach to their staff, if they get the opportunity to.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- With the Wild Card round of the playoffs as their only worry right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers aren't thinking about the NFL coaching carousel. But once the season ends, they should visit some names that are still available - and if Mike Vrabel is one of them, they should call him.

The Steelers should not hire Vrabel as their next head coach. They won't hire Vrabel as their next head coach. Mike Tomlin isn't going anywhere, and the team will march forward into 2024 with most of the same coaching staff outside of a new offensive coordinator.

What they should do is gauge his interest in a Brian Flores-like role. If he doesn't get a head coaching job elsewhere this offseason, why not try to bring him in to help coach the defense, and maybe give him an "assistant coach" title as well.

Then, a year from now, after the Steelers' defense shines once again, he's one of the hottest names on the coaching market.

It feels like it'll work for both sides. The Steelers will have to wait until all, if not most, of the head coaching vacancies are filled, but if Vrabel doesn't land a gig, he might as well boost his resume with a year in Pittsburgh - and Pittsburgh might as well bring in another great coach in Vrabel.
