Texans To Work Out Veteran CB Ronald Darby
With a lot of the Houston Texans' hype this offseason surrounding rookies C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr., adding a veteran to the locker room could be just what they need.
The Texans are hosting free agent cornerback Ronald Darby on a workout Friday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Darby has played eight years in the league for the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, the then-Washington Football Team and Denver Broncos.
Last season, Darby suffered a torn ACL and was limited to just five games. He recorded just 14 tackles, three pass breakups and a forced fumble.
The Oxon Hill, MD. native has consistently been bitten by the injury bug, playing just one full season back in 2020. That year, Darby failed to record an interception but batted away 16 pass attempts — the second most he has broken up in a single season.
The 2015 Defensive Rookie of the Year finalist was a ballhawk in his first five seasons in the NFL, recording all eight of his career interceptions in that span.
Houston tied with the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams for the seventh-most interceptions last season with 16.
The Texans have already brought in cornerbacks Shaquill Griffin, Kendall Sheffield, and Ka'dar Hollman this offseason to complement Desmond King II, Steven Nelson, and Derek Stingley Jr.
Darby would need a career revitalization in Houston, but if he signs, he adds a veteran presence and depth to an already solid Texans secondary.
