What Can New Texans TE Dalton Schultz Bring to Houston?
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's second favorite target officially has a new home.
In the latest of their free agency signings, the Houston Texans grabbed one of the top players on the market on Monday, former Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz.
Schultz's deal is set for one year and is worth up to $9 million.
Reports had previously come out that Schultz declined a multi-year, much larger contract from the Cowboys. However, his agent denied the claim following the veteran's official signing.
But after a productive season where Schultz finished second on the Cowboys in every receiving stat, the question of what he can bring to a rebuilding Texans squad remains.
For starters, adding Schultz allows the Texans to gain a true tight end in place of Jordan Akins, who recently signed with the Cleveland Browns.
Last season, Akins tallied 37 receptions for 495 yards and five touchdowns and led the team in yards per catch.
Replacing Akins was on the list of priorities for the Texans this offseason, and Schultz brings with him the talent and experience to fill that role.
Overall, Schultz brings a level of consistency that the Texans can rely on next season - something that would prove to be extremely helpful to any rookie quarterback.
But either way, his signing proves that the Texans are serious about turning the franchise back into a contender in the AFC.
