Texans WRs: No Andre, No DeAndre, No 'True No. 1'; Is That Bad?

The Houston Texans may not have a clear No. 1 wide receiver, but who doesn't love a little competition?
In this story:

The Houston Texans took quarterback C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, initiating the rebuild process by taking one of the best young signal-callers in recent memory.

And how do you welcome your new star to the league? You buy him as many new toys as he wants, namely wide receivers. And that's exactly what the Texans did. Or, tried to do.

Houston has a whopping 13 wideouts on the roster for Stroud to choose from, with the focus on a group led by Robert Woods, Nico Collins, John Metchie III, Tank Dell, Noah Brown and Xavier Hutchinson.

Still, despite the "focus'' ... That's a lot of guys competing for reps this year, and it's far too early to tell who all will be an everyday guy. We've seen what Woods can do in the NFL. On another level, we know the QB likes Dell. And we've seen for ourselves at TexansDaily.com the connection Stroud already has with Nico.

SBNation writes, "Woods will likely be the Texans' No. 1 receiver and safety blanket ... at least throughout the start of the season,'' and we'll buy that. Woods is 31 years old and has played in 142 NFL games, meaning his experience alone can help Stroud acclimate to the league.

Then there's the rest of the bunch, arguably a mix of "quantity over quality'' that can nevertheless develop and compete to improve the room. Plenty of young guys will be given the chance to step up and grow with Stroud. SBNation calls the group "weak right now,'' and again, we're not going to argue. There is no Andre Johnson here. There is no DeAndre Hopkins here. There might not even be a Brandin Cooks here.

But at least the Texans have options ... plenty of options.
