LOOK: Texans Reveal Week 1 Uniforms vs. Ravens
As a new era begins, the Houston Texans will wear their liberty white tops with deep steel blue pants and helmets for a Week 1 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.
In what will be the debut for coach DeMeco Ryans, quarterback C.J. Stroud and pass rusher Will Anderson Jr., the Texans are currently big underdogs going into Baltimore.
The Ravens -- beginning something of a new era themselves with offensive coordinator Todd Monken -- will wear their purple uniform tops with white pants and black helmets against the Texans, they announced this week.
Since entering the league as an expansion franchise in 2002, the Texans haven't made many uniform tweaks. They did, however, add a matching battle red helmet for their red alternate jerseys last season, which we panned on our SI/FanNation 2023 NFL uniform countdown.
"The battle red jerseys used to be a great alternate, but the matching helmets that the Texans introduced in 2022 have ruined the look. Hopefully the Texans keep their excellent primary logo, but it might be time for the first uniform overhaul in the franchise's brief history," the countdown said.
The Texans -- who checked in at No. 23 overall on the aforementioned countdown -- do plan to introduce a new uniform set in 2024, marking the first refresh in the franchise's relatively brief history. Hannah McNair, wife of CEO Cal McNair, teased the possibility of another color entering the uniform mix for Houston as part of this refresh.
"You'll have your blue, your white and, you know, the other," McNair said, according to Matt Young of The Houston Chronicle.
There's been some speculation "the other" will be a shade of blue that pays homage to the Houston Oilers. However, that's complicated by the fact that the Oilers moved to Tennessee and eventually became the Titans, who are now division-rivals with the Texans. In fact, the Titans plan to wear Oilers throwbacks twice this season, including in Week 15 when they'll host the Texans.
