Colts Leapfrog Texans and Pick Surprise QB in CBS Mock Draft

CBS has the Colts trading up past the Texans for the No. 1 pick to draft... who?
In this story:

It is no secret now that the Houston Texans are targeting a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the up-and-coming 2023 NFL Draft.

However, the Indianapolis Indianapolis Colts are also seemingly after a QB in Round 1, with many mock drafts proposing a Colts trade with the Bears to make sure they get their future QB1.

Either way, between Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, or Will Levis, there will be no shortage of options for either team in April.

With that said, in their most recent mock draft, CBS Sports has the Colts leapfrog the Texans in a blockbuster deal to take... Florida Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson?

Round 1 - Pick 1

Indianapolis Colts - Anthony Richardson, QB - Florida, 6'4 232 lbs

I think Richardson is going to emphatically remove the lid from Lucas Oil Stadium at the NFL Scouting Combine. That will lead to the Colts taking a chance on him, given the hiring of former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as head coach. Richardson has similarities to Jalen Hurts and All-Pro upside.

And Luckily for the Texans, if this scenario does come to pass, and the Colts land Richardson, new head coach Demeco Ryans and Co. will still be able to sit back and take whichever quarterback between Young, Stroud and Levis that they are most comfortable with.

Now, to be fair, it's easy to see the appeal of Richardson, who might be the most physically gifted player of the four top passers.

However, while the upside is enormous, he is also, by most accounts, still a long way from being able to start an NFL game.

Either way, this scenario would likely be a dream for the Texans, who CBS would have going on to take a No. 1 wide receiver in USC's Jordan Addison, and a talented edge rusher in Georgia Tech's Keion White with their next two picks.
