Draft Week Finally Here For Titans, And The Rest

It seems like it has been forever since the end of Super Bowl LVII (57), and the lead-up to this week's draft has been anything but calm. But it's almost time.

NASHVILLE - It's finally here, draft week for the Tennessee Titans and the other 31 teams of the National Football League.

It's been a wild ride over the last several weeks with rumors ablaze, stalled trades, and other wackiness as we have come through the opening stages of free agency, the combine, top 30 visits, and enough rumors to fill one of those old, long-running daytime soaps with storylines for three or four seasons.

Yet, as this draft approaches, it's fair to ask what rumors or other unforeseen developments might arise between Monday morning and Thursday night when Roger Goodell declares this year's selection meeting in Kansas City open for business.

For the Titans, there is an incredible amount of intrigue surrounding them, and perhaps, though not likely, we could get a glimpse of what they are planning when they hold their annual pre-draft press conference later today at St. Thomas Sports Park.

Will there be a trade-up or trade-down? If not, will they go with a tackle, receiver, an edge rusher, or as a bit of a longshot, a corner could all be on the menu on day one?

Regardless of what occurs for the Titans throughout this draft, they, like all 31 other teams, will tell us Saturday night that their football team got better over these three days.

While they may feel that way based on the work they have put in over the last few months leading into this, the simple reality is that neither they, as the team, we the media, nor you the fans, will know that for sure for at least a couple of years.

As we've seen in recent Titans history, the draft can be a mixed bag. For every first-round Jeffery Simmons this organization has selected, there's been an Isaiah Wilson.

Likewise, there have been other successes in rounds two and three with Derrick Henry, Kevin Byard, and AJ Brown, while Kevin Dodd, Dorial Green-Beckham, and Bishop Sankey failed to live up to their draft position.

In conclusion, we should temper our enthusiasm for any players selected by the Titans, or any other favorite team and know that just because we feel a player is a great fit and will be a potentially great player, it doesn't always happen that way. It's not likely to this year either.

Now sit back, relax, and enjoy the final days leading up to the event we've all been waiting for.

Oh, and one friendly reminder, don't throw things at your television set if the Titans do something you don't like Thursday night. You'll have to replace it, which won't change the move you didn't like.
