Titans Need 'Good Football Players, Says Carthon

Tennessee Titans general manager broke it down succinctly on Monday afternoon during his pre-draft press conference.

NASHVILLE - When it comes to what the Tennessee Titans need most coming out of this week's NFL Draft, Titans general manager Ran Carthon only needed three words to make it clear what his team needs most. 

"Good Football players," Carthon said. 

Though he continued, those three words stood out in his answer to the question about the most significant needs of this team. A good football player could come in the form of a player at any position, regardless of it is a specific position of need. 

"You know, we're always looking for good football players. Guys that bring versatility and explosiveness to our team," added Carthon. "Guys that can score with the football, and guys that can take the football away, however, that comes."

"That's what we (his staff) have been tasked to do, so I don't think it's going into it with one specific area of need per se; we just need to continue to add quality players and people to our ball club.    

While there is likely one position that Carthon and company would like to fill in round one, this comment would seem to indicate that he is open to taking the best player available if he can not get the specific individual he might want when on the clock. 

Of course, this is no surprise, but having him address it as he did as a need for good football players, breaks it down to its simplest form. 

In the end, Carthon didn't give away anything of value in determining the player that he and the Titans might be leaning toward; he did give us a slight glimpse at the underlying task at hand.   

Find and add "good football players" to this Titans roster, now and in the future. 

If he is as successful at that here as he was with the San Francisco front office, there should be a marked improvement for the Titans coming soon.
