Fans Of Titans And Other Teams Show Their Passion On Social Media
NASHVILLE - While there's a worldwide passion for soccer, there's nothing in all American sports like football fans' passion. While college football fandom is more ravenous than the NFL, a great passion still consumes those loyalists to their favorite professional franchise.
That passion, and sometimes that obsession, shows itself, especially on social media, where those fans can express their thoughts and desires directly to the players who often interact with the masses from their accounts.
Such was the case on Sunday night after free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins visited the Tennessee Titans, where the prize target posted a shot from inside the luxury vehicle the team sent to pick him up after he arrived in town.
Fans of the Titans made their case for the new visitor to sign with their favorite team, while fans of other teams displayed their thoughts on the Titans, and what might be in store for him if he decided to move to Nashville.
However, the negative comments directed at the Titans were plentiful and more plentiful than those of Titans fans.
Those are just a sample of what happened with posts across the Twitterverse minutes after these tweets hit the screens of NFL fans.
Here's the thing, and of course, this is my opinion. Other than to allow one to engage in an argument with other fans on social media, why bother?
After all, do we, as fans, and sports reporters, unless we have a personal relationship with that athlete, honestly expect them to pay attention or care what we send their way on social media?
Yes, players occasionally respond, but those comments often fall into the deep well of nothing at the bottom of their Twitter feeds.
Let's be honest; there is not much that fans' comments do to impact the future decisions of players. Those decisions are based on personalities, schemes, philosophies, and ultimately dollars and how many that player can stash in his bank account.
I'm not going to say stop doing it because that will also end up at the bottom of that same well, and often the comments are pretty funny and entertaining, and I'm all for being entertained. Still, it's a significant waste of time and has little, if any, impact on the final decisions.
That said, keep the passion alive and provide us with comic relief and entertainment, but don't be too upset if the target of your comments signs with another team who might have more Washingtons to spend than your team.
