Byard Came And Made His Point, Now What's Next

When Kevin Byard finally began talking, the questions and his reluctance to share much became apparent.

NASHVILLE - Kevin Byard refused to get into his feelings when discussing the Tennessee Titans asking their veteran star to take a pay cut earlier this offseason. It was more of the same when he was asked about the potential trade rumors that began around the same time as he refused the team's request to take less money this season.

"Like I said, I really didn't get into all that, really don't want to get into all that, because, like I said, at the end of the day, I came here for minicamp., and I came here to make sure I was going to focus on football, and that's all I'm focussed on right now," said Byard on Thursday. "Like I said, I hired people to handle business like that."

While Byard was fielding these questions, he was very matter-of-fact in his approach to this media session. While it is likely that he could have, and possibly wanted to share more, being a professional and consummate team player, he was never going to share more than he planned entering the day.

WHat was clear from the first moment Byard stepped onto the practice field on Tuesday and we in the media arrived, the former MTSU standout was all about business.

Every move he made n that practice field was done in a professional, workman-like way, and it was likely intended to be that way for multiple reasons.

Of course, this is but an opinion, but as I suggested earlier this week, Byard arrived at St. Thomas Sports Park with the intention of showing his organization what he is and what he brings to the table. All the talk, rumors, and the ill-fated attempt by the Titans to get him to say yes to a pay cut was likely fuel for his fire and the impetus for a point he set out to make.

Having watched Byard work for these last three days, I'd say he delivered his message to the Titans loud and clear.

The question is, was anyone outside the coaching staff listening?
