Titans Al-Shaair Sees 'A Lot Going On' With Team's Offense
NASHVILLE - After a disastrous 2022 season, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel changed his coaching staff, including the dismissal of former offensive coordinator Todd Downing and the insertion of Tim Kelly to replace him.
It's apparent that Kelly has changed much of what this offense did previously, and his new philosophy seems to be taking hold. However, it's still early in the offseason portion of their preparations for the coming season.
While watching practice, it's easy to see the different approaches Kelly has in place, and the Titans defense is seeing it up close and personal on the practice field.
One of the players who has brought a new dynamic to this offense is rookie running back Tyjae Spears.
New inside linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, quickly becoming a media favorite because of his humor and honesty at the podium, shared a thought on the Titans offense and Spears shortly after the team completed their Tuesday minicamp practice.
"There's definitely a lot going on, and I think it's some really good route running; that's why they brought him (Spears) in," said Al-Shaair. "We've been going at it, and I've been messing with him since we've been going against each other."
"He's going to be a really good player. He's just got to keep working, taking it one day at a time, and that's why we're all here, just working," Al-Shaiir said.
As for messing with his rookie teammate, Al-Shaair described it like this.
"Talking crap," said Al-Shaair. "Like I'll be guarding him, and he doesn't catch the ball, I'll just whisper in his ear and say something stupid or be in the locker room, and I'm messing with him all the time, but it's all love though."
While Spears has arguably been the biggest star of the offense to this part, his play, along with the leap forward from Treylon Burks, has given this offense the potential for big plays that were missing last season.
Granted, there is still a lot of work to do, and the question marks still remain concerning the offensive line, but at least part of the new offensive plan is coming into focus. However, this group has to translate that onto the field for an actual game before it means anything.
