The Tennessee Titans are in the process of putting their regular season roster together and while the setting of the initial roster gets a lot of buzz, the reality is the roster continues to take form over the following days as well.

We are seeing that on Wednesday when the Titans claimed defensive back Kindle Vildor and more moves were expected to come. Looks like we will see another after Jordan Schultz reported that Kyle Philips was being put on injured reserve.

The second-year receiver from UCLA was hit on a punt return attempt against the Minnesota Vikings in the Titans' second preseason game and suffered an MCL injury. He will now miss a minimum of four games to start the regular season before he will be eligible to return.

Philips made the Titans' initial 53-man roster though. Had he been placed on injured reserve prior to making the roster, he would not have been eligible to return at all in 2023. Philips' injury is expected to have a recovery timeline of 2-6 weeks, so a season-ending stint wouldn't have made sense, but the Titans could still take it slow with Philips.

This is another injury setback for Philips. Philips has impressed in back-to-back training camps because of his route running and quickness. He showed his potential to impact the game in Week 1 of the 2022 season when he caught six passes for 66 yards and had a 46-yard punt return.

Since that moment though it has been all about availability, or lack thereof, for Philips. Philips went on to only catch two more passes the rest of the season and he muffed two punt return attempts and lost that job. Playing in only 4 games the entire year due to a hamstring and shoulder injury were the primary factor.

Now, going into a season where the Titans need his specific skillset desperately, Philips will miss just under a quarter of the season at minimum. A major disappointment for the former fifth-round pick.
