Tennessee Titans Week 4 Power Rankings Roundup: Titans Fall After Embarrassing Loss to Browns

After the Tennessee Titans lost 27-3 in embarrassing fashion on Sunday, it should be only expected that confidence in them nationally would drop and that's exactly what you see in this week's power rankings roundup.

The Tennessee Titans came out of their Week 2 victory with renewed hope that this team could get back to it's winning ways and shed the losing-streak vibes that still remain from ending 2022 with seven straight losses.

The Titans matched their highest-scoring output of all of 2022 against the Los Angeles Chargers and that led to belief the Titans were on their way to an improved offense and competitive Sundays.

Flash forward one week after an embarrassing loss to the Cleveland Browns where the offense looked lifeless and all of that optimism seems to have vanished when it comes to the national power rankings. We saw the Titans drop significantly in each ranking.

While Week 2's win allowed for reasonable discussion on the Titans' placement, Week 3's loss makes it near impossible to debate any placement the Titans may receive. Let's dive into where the Titans rank heading into Week 4.

ESPN: Tennessee Titans - 29th

The Titans dropped seven spots in ESPN's group-project rankings. Out of all the teams in the NFL that sit at 1-2, the Titans are ranked the lowest and not only that, but the Minnesota Vikings who sit at 0-3 are ranked ahead of them. Very little hope, indeed.

NFL Network - Eric Edholm: Tennessee Titans - 21st

"Even while adding the context of how many good pass rushers the Titans have faced through three games, Andre Dillard had a rough day against the Browns’ Myles Garrett, being overwhelmed in pass protection a few times and also being flagged on back-to-back third-down plays in the second quarter. He wasn’t the only Tennessee offensive lineman to struggle at Cleveland, but it’s concerning that left tackle remains an issue -- and that coordinator Tim Kelly hasn’t done more to help Dillard. Perhaps the Titans could try rookie Peter Skoronski there once he’s healthy, but Mike Vrabel stuck with 15-game starter Dennis Daley last season amid similar struggles. Tennessee might have to figure out how to make it work with Dillard."

This is actually the smallest drop the Titans take in any of our rankings today. Edholm points out the Titans' issues on the offensive line with Andre Dillard, so it is surprising that the Titans didn't drop more.

CBS Sports - Pete Prisco: Tennessee Titans - 21st

"The offense was non-existent against the Browns. That's a good defense, but the offensive line issues are a problem."

Another seven-spot drop for the Titans, but this time it doesn't have them quite as far down in the list. What is notable is that the Titans are the lowest-ranked team from the AFC South, something that even with early struggles, is a surprise.

The Athletic - Josh Kendall: Tennessee Titans - 24th

"After a brief bounce-back performance in Week 2, Ryan Tannehill turned back into a pumpkin this week. The 35-year-old is 31st in the league in offensive EPA per dropback (minus.-.27) and 28th in completion percentage (59). It doesn’t help that he’s been sacked 13 times, the second most in the league, but he’s not doing himself any favors with one touchdown and three interceptions for the season."

Seven is an unlucky number for the Titans as that is the number of spots they drop in a third ranking. As Kendall notes, Tannehill is not helping the team at the moment and while he may be under a ton of pressure, he deserves his own slice of blame pie.

Bleacher Report: Tennessee Titans - 25th

This time the Titans drop five spots instead of seven. Again, the winless Vikings are ranked ahead of the Titans, hammering home the point that most in the national space believe this team is dead in the water.

Whether that will be the case or not remains to be seen and the Titans will have major questions to answer against the Cincinnati Bengals, who the Titans have yet to beat with Joe Burrow at quarterback.
