Report: Alabama Basketball Set to Play Purdue in Toronto in 2023
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Two of the top seeds in the 2023 NCAA Tournament will meet next season across the border.
The Alabama Crimson Tide and Purdue Boilermakers were both No. 1 seeds in the Big Dance. Now, the two programs will play in 2023-24.
The Crimson Tide and Boilermakers have scheduled a nonconference matchup for Dec. 9 in Toronto.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for both Alabama's Charles Bediako and Purdue's Zach Edey. Bediako is originally from Brampton, Ontario while Edey is a native of Toronto.
The Boilermakers lost their opening round game to No. 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson in the Round of 64. The Crimson Tide made it to the Sweet 16 — where it eventually lost to national runner-up San Diego State.
Alabama already has a couple of high-profile games on its 2023-24 schedule. The Crimson Tide is playing Arizona in Phoenix on Dec. 20 — and a true road game at Creighton has yet to be scheduled.
Alabama will have a lot of work to do in the offseason — losing its top scorer Brandon Miller as well as three of head coach Nate Oats' assistants.
