Razorbacks' Isaiah Sategna Knows No Clear No. 1 Receiver Now
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas wide receiver Isaiah Sategna is aware what folks are saying.
He didn't come right out and say that, but the implication is pretty clear the Razorbacks are aware there are more questions than answers right now from just about everyone about this group.
"Everybody kind of has a chip on their shoulder," Sategna said after Saturday's practice inside Razorback Stadium. "Not just one specifically. Everybody has been putting in extra work, going hard every play. I like what I’m seeing from everybody."
Not surprisingly, that's what you would expect to hear from the players.
The last couple of years it was clear who the main go-to guy was, especially through 2019 when Tennessee Titans' Treylon Burks was No. 1. Last year changed at times due to injuries, but Jadon Haselwood and Matt Landers found their ways out in front of everybody else.
The players are trying to get comfortable with what new offensive coordinator Dan Enos wants. It's been a major learning experience throughout spring practice.
"We’re in a good spot right now," Sategna said.
The learning curve for the players is just something they've got to figure out and work on. With just four more practices left in the spring, those workouts are starting to diminish quickly.
"We had at the beginning (of spring practice), Sategna said. "We’re cutting down on that for sure and we’re more focusing on the details like the exact depth of the route, exactly how you’re supposed to run it. Let’s say square cut versus speed cut, a dig."
He thinks fans will like what they see next weekend, getting their first peek at the team this spring.
We’re going in the right direction," he said. "Next week everybody will see what we’ve been doing."
For Sategna, the Fayetteville native who was a track and football star with the Fayetteville Bulldogs, last year may have brought him to the reality of playing in the SEC. He was a star in hight school.
"I had to look myself in the mirror because being a freshman, I wasn’t used to not playing and stuff,” Sategna said. “I learned a lot from that year and I’m glad I got to redshirt so I still have four more years, but I’m looking to play this year. That’s my goal."
The Hogs will practice Tuesday, Thursday and Friday before the spring scrimmage at Noon on Saturday. The long-range forecast now on the weather is calling for 78-degree weather and mostly sunny skies.
