Auburn needs to get more pressure on the quarterback
One of the big concerns heading into the 2023 football season for the Auburn Tigers was how much pressure would they get on the quarterback.
That concern has quickly turned into a problem for the Tigers as through six games; Auburn only has 12 sacks, which has them twelfth in the SEC.
The coaching staff was hoping that players like Elijah McAllister and Jalen McLeod would help rush the passer, but these two combined only have 1.5 sacks.
McLeod is a talented player who has been dealing with injuries. The hope for the Appalachian State transfer is that the bye week two weeks ago has him healthier, and he can start getting after the quarterback.
The team leader in sacks six games into the season is Eugene Asante, who, alongside Jaylin Simpson, has been the MVP of the Auburn defense.
Marcus Harris has also gotten pressure on the quarterback as he has 2.5 sacks, which has him second behind Asante.
Ole Miss starter Jaxon Dart has only been sacked 12 times in six games, so Auburn needs to try and get some pressure on him, or he will pick you apart.
If Auburn can get pressure against Ole Miss, perhaps Hugh Freeze can upset his old employer.
