Gunner Britton displayed his talents during Saturday’s game against UMass
Gunner Britton displayed his incredible versatility across the offensive line during Saturday’s game against the UMass Minutemen, proving his importance to the offensive unit of the Auburn Tigers.
The 6-foot-6, 312-pound transfer from Western Kentucky made his way to the plains on January 5th of this year after entering the transfer portal in late November of 2022. Arriving at Auburn with plenty of time to participate in both Spring and Fall Camps, Gunner quickly proved his worth as a playmaker and a leader within the offensive line room.
Fast forward to yesterday, Gunner suited up for his first game as an Auburn Tiger and he surely didn’t disappoint with his performance on the field. Gunner lined up for 53 snaps against the Minutemen and displayed his versatility in spades. Gunner played 27 snaps as left guard, 19 snaps as right tackle, and six snaps as left tackle. He also lined up with the field goal unit throughout the game. This type of versatility is extremely beneficial for the Tigers offensive line unit, and he has filled that role perfectly.
"I think it just speaks to his importance to us," Freeze said when asked about Britton's versatility. "He needs to be on the field, and we need to stay fresh because we like to go fast, and he gives us freedom to move some puzzle pieces around because of his flexibility. He's really invaluable with that."
I believe Coach Freeze’s sentiments are equally felt across the roster, coaching staff, and Auburn’s fan base alike. Gunner is quickly proving to be one of the most important additions to the Auburn roster from the 2023 transfer portal haul.
We are looking forward to seeing Gunner often on Saturdays as he suits up for our Auburn Tigers and provides a much needed boost to our offensive attack with his incredible production on the offensive line.
